The problem
Trains to France stop early
At the time of writing, the last direct train from Barcelona-Sants to France leaves at 16:31. After an afternoon or evening flight, you would have to sleep in Barcelona and continue the next day, or chain regional trains to the border with no guarantee of a connection on the other side. Timetables change: check them with the operators.
Girona airport has no station at all, and bus connections to Girona thin out in the evening. Our comparison of train, bus and transfer explains the options in daytime.

Perpignan-Rivesaltes airport has few routes and none to Spain: for most destinations you fly from Girona (≈ 1 h 20 from Perpignan) or Barcelona (≈ 2 h 30). Enter your flight time and we work out the pick-up for the worst case, border checks included.
