Timing your flight
How early to leave for El Prat
Without traffic, the drive takes about two hours and ten minutes for some 205 km: the A9 to Le Perthus, the AP-7 past Figueres and Girona, then the ring road around Barcelona to the airport. On top of that, allow a margin for a possible check at the border and for the traffic at the entrance to Barcelona, which is heaviest on weekday mornings and on Friday and Sunday afternoons.
As a rule of thumb, aim to reach the terminal two hours before a flight within Schengen and three hours before a long-haul or non-Schengen flight. Give us your flight number and departure time when you book and we suggest a pick-up time with that margin built in. For flights at dawn we drive through the night: we work 24/7.
At the airport
Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, straight to departures
El Prat has two terminals several kilometres apart, and going to the wrong one costs you precious time. Your ticket or airline app tells you which one you need; we check it again with your flight number and drop you at the departures kerb of the right terminal, with your luggage taken out of the boot for you.
If your flight changes before the day, message us with the new time and we move the pick-up, depending on availability.
At the border
Documents for the crossing into Spain
On the way to Barcelona you cross the border at Le Perthus and La Jonquera. Most of the time the car drives straight through, but the Spanish police and customs can check vehicles entering the country. Keep an ID card or passport for every passenger, children included, inside the car rather than in a suitcase. You will need them at the airport anyway.
