The route
The AP-7, the A9, then the A61
Your driver takes the AP-7 to La Jonquera, crosses the border at Le Perthus and continues on the A9 past Perpignan to Narbonne. From there the A61 heads west through vineyards and rolling hills to Carcassonne. You will spot the ramparts of the Cité before you even leave the motorway.
The drive takes around three and a quarter hours. A leg-stretch break is possible on the way, and a stop in Figueres can be built into the same ride if you ask when booking.

What you should know
Getting to Carcassonne by train from Barcelona usually means at least one change, timetables to stick to and suitcases to haul from one platform to another. It is still an option if you travel light and have no time constraints.
