Events in the South of France worth the trip from Barcelona

Some of the best reasons to cross the border are on the calendar: a medieval city lit up by fireworks, the world’s photojournalism festival, a centuries-old Good Friday procession. Here are the main events of the area, when they take place and how to plan your transfer around them.

Perpignan

The Sanch procession and Visa pour l’Image

On Good Friday afternoon, the penitents of the Sanch walk through the historic centre of Perpignan in red and black hoods, carrying religious statues in silence: a Catalan tradition going back to the Middle Ages, revived in the 1950s. The next one falls on Good Friday, 26 March 2027.

At the end of summer, Visa pour l’Image turns Perpignan into the capital of photojournalism, with free exhibitions in churches, convents and historic buildings across the city. The 2026 edition ran from 29 August to 13 September; the 2027 dates are announced by the festival.

Door-to-door comparison

Train, bus, own car or private driver: the real numbers for your group

Choose where you start, where you are going and how many of you are travelling. The private transfer price comes live from our booking engine; train, bus and tolls come from published fares, with their date. You decide.

The private transfer is priced for the whole vehicle; we divide it by the number of travellers so you can compare.

Sources (checked 27-10-2026): train times and fares from Barcelona-Sants (kombo.co, Trainline), FlixBus routes, 2026 Vinci Autoroutes/ASF rates (class 1). Driving times: OSRM, without traffic. Indicative: check with each operator.

Carcassonne

The summer festival and the 14 July fireworks

Every summer the Festival de Carcassonne brings concerts, theatre and dance to the Cité and the lower town. On the evening of 14 July, the French national day, the medieval Cité is “set ablaze” by a fireworks display that draws huge crowds.

On these dates, hotels fill up early and access around the Cité is restricted. Book your transfer as soon as your accommodation is confirmed and give us its exact address: the driver drops you as close as the traffic rules allow. See Barcelona to Carcassonne.

All year
