Why Girona
An hour closer to France than Barcelona
Girona airport is about 100 km from Perpignan, roughly an hour less on the road than Barcelona El Prat for every destination in the South of France. It is a popular choice for flights from the United Kingdom, Ireland and northern Europe, especially in summer.
The catch is getting away from the airport: there is no train station, so you first need a bus to Girona before you can take a train towards France. With a transfer, you walk out of arrivals and into the vehicle. Our Girona airport guide has the practical details.
